Heart disease the biggest killer in India, COPD second biggest: The Lancet

In 1990, cardiovascular diseases accounted for 15.2% of all deaths; by 2016, this shot up to 28.1% with 2.8 million dying of heart problems. Diabetes contributed to 3.1% of total deaths in 2016 and the major cause for it being obesity. The second largest killer is COPD - responsible for 10.9% of the total deaths in India in 2016.
